Avalanche-rock

I've grown over the past weeks / months / years to thoroughly enjoy the music of The Avalanches
eg.

and i've enjoyed the music of Cornelius for quite some time.
it's almost inaccessible to some but i find it amazing
eg.

A Bit About Each Artist
The Avalanches:

are a melbourne-based Australian band.
they create ALL of their music by sampling
no live instruments.
except in live shows, where it would be boring otherwise.
they sampled their way to making an entire album, which i think is incredible, and when you consider the amount of
    hard work,
    precision,
    beat matching,
and all that went into creating songs like "Since I Left You" - where none of the individual tracks come from the same song..
wow.

Cornelius:

is a japanese dude, who creates all of his own music.
he is just going on 40 this year,
so he's not the youngest cat out, but he has been kicking around for a very long time.
He's been in a few bands i've never heard of, from the Shibuya-kei scene back in the day. It may be worth checking them out. details at 10
He's released more albums than i realised, i just have "Sensuous"(2006) which is incredible.
he uses real instruments, samples. drums, a live band for shows, and anything he wants, cause he can.

in this video, what we have is Cornelius remixing The Avalanches.
thus combining the twin disciplines of litstening to Cornelius and The Avalanches.
that's my kind of synergy, no?

the world famous Ke$ha vs. Uffie debate

(at no point in my life do i condone or support this song, this artist or anything she does.
this video is here merely as a comparison.)

now the internet has been talking a LOT about Ke$ha and Uffie lately,
i think it's time we settled this once and for all.

Ke$ha:

USA Hip-hop backed (produced by that guy who helped, sadly Katy Perry, Flo Rida, Britney, Avril, Kelly Clarkson, Sugababes, and all the worst people in the world).
Her career took off with her one-hit in 2009 "Tik Tok", and swarms of teeny bopping girls are eagerly awaiting her album "Animal" to be released early 2010.
Ke$ha is one reason that i HOPE the concept of the album dies out soon, because i don't know if i could stand hearing 4 more Tik Tok clones.
Also, she's a hussy, and uses a dollar sign instead of an "s"in her name.
what the fuck.

Uffie:

backed by France, and french electro. Her beats are made with the assistance of the lovely FEADZ, Busy P signed her to Ed Banger in 2005 or 2006, and she's worked with a who's who of French electro - the best kind of electro. (Justice, Busy P, Mehdi, basically all of  Ed Rec)
Her album will ALSO be released in early 2010, it is to be called "Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans"
it's an album that could go either way, but her music is, over the large number of songs she has released, actually quite varied.
also, i'd marry her. if she wanted to.

compare Ke$ha's song, released in 2009, with this song, released in 2006

or this one, released in 2007

"oh come on, it's not THAT similar, maybe it's just the same style evolving at the same time" you may say. but the best comparison yet comes from this one.
compare all facets of this song with Kesha's Tik Tok, keeping in mind that this was released in early 2007.

congratulations, Ke$hat. you're doing something that was done two years ago,
and peddling this filth as something new and innovative.

i think we should probably just put them in a room together
and watch Uffie freestyle all over Ke$ha's face

walking around in our summertime clothes

lets get out of here
it's become too hard to stay
steal a car, get away

No alarms and no surprises, please

Dear Santa,
a tall ship
and a star to steer her by
and the wheel's kick
and the wind's song
and the white sail's shaking.
and the grey mist on the sea's face
and a grey dawn breaking.

but if it's not tall, and there's no peace, and no quiet,
i'd settle for a 49er

i think i could deal with that
(some extracts from John Masefield's "Sea Fever", a life changing poem)

i'm super serial

so i'm back, getting into the swing of things again.
thus forth, let us continue our foray into the bowels of the interthing.
could this be manbearpig?

more photocredits to people who aren't me.
of course.

David Lynch's Interview Project

On InterviewProject.com David Lynch has posted all of these interviews his crew have done, with all sorts of people all around the United States.
unfortunately, there is no embed code or anything like that because i'd post my favourite few.
but some of these people are really interesting, if more than a little crazy.

check it out if you like Twin Peaks and stuff like that.

moonrise

this was one of the coolest things i had ever seen
moonrise at Byron Bay, please forgive the blurred/ grainy nature of these.
i was using drunken hands and a camera not equipped to take these kinds of photos properly
(without tripod etc)

i wondered briefly what may be Beyond The Moon
then i realised that's what i'm here to find out.

i swear my doona loses a corner as soon as i turn off the lights

home from my week of decadence.
some great times were had by all.

then Hunter S Thompson came to visit...

"damn mescalin, why'd they make it so pure?!"

You Gotta Love This City

credits must go to josh for finding this, but i (unlike him, most probably) had the mettle to watch it.

the whole way through.
this guy, not only has a ridiculous lifestyle,
but no sense of rhythm apparently.
of all the bad rappers in the world:

Chamillionare
Lil' Scrappy
Bubba Sparxx
Lil' Wayne
Lil' Jon (do those guys even rap? or are they auto-tuned)
Lil'[insert white name here]
T-Pain (definitely NOT rapping)

of all these bad rappers, this guy is worse.
far far worse.
i'm sure any man who gives that many girls a free ride in a big limo
with free drinks etc
could be convinced that he is a successful rapper.

here, however, is a good rapper..

Drowning Clouds with my good friend Snazzle

this is an official big ups to Maike and Drowning Clouds.
despite the fact that the music player starts automatically, i thoroughly enjoy her work.
furthermore, Josh from An Ode To Odette Snazzle deserves perhaps an even bigger ups,
since unlike M and I, he doesnt steal the majority of his photos and videos.
he draws, takes, and creates almost everything there.
and that's pretty fresh.

This is a salute to you guys.

SHA- WING

ps. sorry to spam this into a blog post, i don't know how to get friend links.
Other blogs to Recommend will come soon, but maybe not too soon,
since that would expose my whole copyright scam.

The Prodigy

i really am hoping to be able to see them next year.
i missed the prodigy when they last came to Aus, in 05 and 09 for various reasons,
but now our paths will cross in Paris, when i'm there for the year.
so i hope to be able to go and see them,
and have fun

Much like Justice, i'll always have a soft spot for The Prodigy
I first came across them at the tender age of 11.
Little did i know just what i was really dabbling with..
Had my dad actually known that he'd bought me 6 of the world's most intense pirated CD's,

i'm sure he would have felt differently about the markets in Hanoi.
but they became a part of my life at that young age,
without me understanding the culture or background that they came from.
all i knew is that this song (amongst others, of course)

was awesome,
and that i had a very visceral reaction to it.
i still do.

i don't like other jungle,
i don't like much drum and bass
i don't rave
i don't shuffle - it's for dicks
i don't gabber - also for dicks
i never have taken a pill
i don't partake in the whole trance / house / acid house scene
but i fucking love this song.
and i fucking love the prodigy.

don't steal their music. it's worth buying to support them.
plus i  also hear if you steal it, then Keith Flint will come get you in your sleep
"holy shit, he could eat me alive"

yeah.

i know

ps. proof that gabbering, raving and anything involved in that scene is for dicks:

what?
you want MORE proof?
oh, alright

believe me yet?
people are really stupid.

and here's some proof that The Prodigy don't just want to kill people...

isn't that song great??

Functional Items of Clothing

these thoroughly impressive items of apparel have not only fantastic aesthetic appeal, but are completely and totally functional. no matter what season they're designed for, they're perfect for it.
each one absolutely a must-have for this season's stock.

"my torso is freezing, but my arms are surprisingly doing okay"
is that what you're thinking before you put this on?
i don't care what material its made of, how warm and functional you think it is.
unless you're at sea, or on a mountain climb, no-one in the world has the right to wear these

Stress

i'm always going to have a soft spot for justice, no matter what happens.
i don't know why, but to me, "CROSS" is a symphony.
if you don't believe me, look through related videos for that,
and listen for the self referentiality through it all,
or go follow this link.
not that i'd support illegally downloading full albums or anything..

actually, i went today. i got some new chompers...
